The delicate fragrance of osmanthus wafts gently across the campus, whilst the soft glow of the moon filters gently through the window panes. To deepen students’ understanding of China’s fine traditional culture and enable them to appreciate the significance of reunion during the Mid-Autumn Festival through hands-on experiences, SUIS Hefei Campus has organised a series of immersive, elegant Mid-Autumn Festival themed activities, drawing on ancient traditions as a foundation and the light of childhood innocence. Blending the charm of intangible cultural heritage with the refined pleasures of handicrafts, scientific inquiry and bilingual expression, a cultural gathering celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival—where past and present complement one another and Eastern and Western cultures intertwine—has gently commenced on campus.
雅韵中秋，情满协和。亲子居家巧思创作，一盏盏创意灯笼匠心成型。灵动玉兔、皎月星河、桂影嫦娥，各式灯笼承载家庭的巧思与期许，汇聚校园。外教也进行灯笼手工创作，赋予传统灯笼别样新意。点点灯火摇曳，盛满中秋独有的温暖欢愉，光影之间，中西文化温柔相逢。
An Elegant Mid-Autumn Festival, Filled with Warmth at SUIS-HF. Parents and children put their creative minds to work at home, crafting one ingenious lantern after another with great care. From graceful jade rabbits to the bright moon and starry skies, and the silhouette of Chang’e amidst the osmanthus trees, lanterns of every kind, embodying families’ ingenuity and hopes, gathered on campus. Foreign teachers also took part in the lantern-making, infusing traditional designs with a fresh twist. As the flickering lights danced, they radiated the unique warmth and joy of the Mid-Autumn Festival; amidst the play of light and shadow, Eastern and Western cultures met in a gentle harmony.
画笔凝月色，雅谜诵秋章。同学们的中秋主题绘画作品悉数亮相，陈列于一楼大厅。一幅幅画作灵动鲜活，将皓月桂影、玉兔团圆的中秋意象娓娓呈现。条条灯谜暗藏巧思，诗词条幅载满千古中秋雅韵。
The brush captures the moonlight, whilst elegant riddles recite verses of autumn. The students’ Mid-Autumn Festival-themed artworks are all on display in the ground-floor lobby. Each painting is vivid and full of life, gracefully portraying the iconic images of the Mid-Autumn Festival: the bright moon, the silhouette of the osmanthus tree, and the Jade Rabbit symbolising reunion. Every riddle is imbued with ingenuity, whilst the scrolls of poetry are filled with the timeless elegance of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
美食寄团圆，饼香话中秋。校园餐厅内，手作月饼活动热闹开启。同学们化身小小制作师，揉搓面团、包裹馅料、压印花纹，一枚枚圆润可爱的月饼陆续成型。
Delicious food symbolises family reunion, whilst the aroma of mooncakes heralds the Mid-Autumn Festival. In the campus canteen, a lively handmade mooncake-making activity was in full swing. The students transformed into little master chefs, kneading the dough, wrapping the fillings and pressing patterns into the pastry, as one round and adorable mooncake after another took shape.
巧手承非遗，雅艺庆中秋。同学们沉浸式体验传统非遗与中式美学手作，化身传统手艺传承人。在竹编的一挑一压间感受篾条交错的精巧，以螺钿、烧箔为材创作雅致的装饰画作。在合香珠的制作、钩织的缠绕中体验传统手作的细腻。指尖捏塑非遗面塑，雕琢灵动百态；一纸裁出万千意趣，感受剪纸艺术的巧思；大家还动手完成趣味 “动物” 插花，造型构思间尽情发挥创意。同学们在亲手创作中读懂非遗之美，让古老的传统手艺在指尖焕发新的生机，也为中秋佳节添上一抹独有的文化韵味。
Skilled hands uphold intangible cultural heritage; refined arts celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Students immersed themselves in traditional intangible cultural heritage and Chinese aesthetic crafts, transforming into custodians of traditional craftsmanship. Through the rhythmic lifting and pressing of bamboo weaving, they appreciated the intricate interweaving of the strips, whilst creating elegant decorative artworks using mother-of-pearl inlay and burnt gold leaf. They experienced the meticulous nature of traditional craftsmanship through the creation of incense beads and the winding techniques of crochet. With their fingertips, they moulded intangible cultural heritage dough sculptures, carving out lively and varied forms; from a single sheet of paper, they cut out countless delightful designs, appreciating the ingenuity of the art of paper-cutting; everyone also set to work on creating whimsical ‘animal’-themed floral arrangements, giving free rein to their creativity in the design and composition. Through these hands-on creations, the students came to appreciate the beauty of intangible cultural heritage, breathing new life into ancient traditional crafts with their own hands, whilst adding a unique cultural touch to the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.
仰望皓月，探知星河。学校结合科学与地理学科，开展“我和月亮有个约会”和“地月科学与文化探究”探究活动。同学们观察月相变化，探寻月亮背后的天文奥秘，把科学思考与中秋人文传说结合，以多元视角读懂明月，积累丰富的探究成果，实现科学与传统文化的双向交融。
Gazing up at the bright moon and exploring the Milky Way. The school has organised inquiry-based activities titled ‘My Date with the Moon’ and ‘Exploring the Science and Culture of the Earth and the Moon’, integrating the subjects of science and geography. Pupils have observed the changing phases of the moon and explored the astronomical mysteries behind it, combining scientific thinking with the cultural legends of the Mid-Autumn Festival to interpret the full moon from diverse perspectives. Through this, they have accumulated a wealth of research findings and achieved a mutual enrichment of science and traditional culture.
以语言为桥，叙中秋古韵。温情的亲子绘本共读如约开展，家长与孩子并肩翻阅中秋主题绘本，在字里行间探寻中秋起源与神话传说，沉浸式演绎绘本情节，于共读相伴的时光里感受团圆暖意。同学们以双语为载体，用英文娓娓诉说中秋经典传说。流畅的英文表达与悠远的中国故事交相辉映，传递东方独有的月色浪漫，让传统佳节焕发出别样的文化魅力。
Using language as a bridge to recount the ancient charm of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the heart-warming parent-child picture book reading session took place as planned. Parents and children sat side by side, leafing through Mid-Autumn Festival-themed picture books, exploring the festival’s origins and mythical legends between the lines, immersing themselves in the stories, and savouring the warmth of reunion during their time spent reading together. Using bilingualism as their medium, the pupils eloquently recounted classic Mid-Autumn Festival legends in English. Their fluent English delivery complemented the timeless Chinese stories, conveying the unique Eastern romance of the moonlit night and allowing this traditional festival to radiate a distinctive cultural charm.
手作传温情，探究拓视野，双语展风采，非遗续文脉。本次雅韵中秋活动，打破课堂边界，融合家校协同、科学探究、非遗传承与中外文化交流，让同学们在沉浸式实践中触摸文化根脉，感受中秋的人文内涵。未来，合肥协和将持续深耕传统文化美育，以丰富多彩的主题活动滋养少年心灵，让华夏文脉浸润校园的每一寸时光。
Handicrafts convey warmth, inquiry broadens horizons, bilingualism showcases talent, and intangible cultural heritage carries on the cultural legacy. This ‘Elegant Mid-Autumn’ event transcends the boundaries of the classroom, integrating home-school collaboration, scientific inquiry, the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, and cultural exchange between China and other countries, enabling pupils to connect with their cultural roots through immersive practical experiences and to appreciate the cultural significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival. In the future, SUIS Hefei Campus will continue to deepen its commitment to aesthetic education in traditional culture, nurturing young minds through a rich array of themed activities and ensuring that the cultural heritage of China permeates every moment on campus.
