Hello everyone! I’m Gloria Lu from SUIS-HF’s P5.

站在大家面前的我，看起来可能只是一个普通的五年级女生，但如果你走近我，就会发现——我的手里常常抱着一把特别的中阮，我的心里装着一个大大的世界。

Standing here before you, I may look like just an ordinary Year 5 girl, but if you come closer, you’ll see that I’m often clutching a special zhongruan in my hands, and my heart is filled with a vast world.

如果要从十年的成长中挑出最闪耀的一天，那一定是九岁那年的夏天。那一天，我抱着心爱的中阮，站上了北京音乐厅的舞台。

If I had to pick the most memorable day from my ten years of growth, it would have to be that summer when I was nine. On that day, clutching my beloved zhongruan, I took to the stage at the Beijing Concert Hall.

那是中国与白俄罗斯联合举办的中白丝绸之路国际青少年艺术大赛。走进北京音乐厅的那一刻，我被深深震撼了——金色的穹顶，庄重的气氛，台下坐满了来自两国的评委和观众。我深吸一口气，指尖触到熟悉的琴弦，所有的紧张突然消失。灯光亮起，《花好月圆》的旋律从我指尖流淌而出。当最后一个音符在音乐厅回荡，全场响起了热烈的掌声——我获得了国际银奖！而我和金奖仅有0.03分的差距。走下领奖台的那一刻，我的眼眶湿润了。不是为了这个奖，而是因为我想起了无数个练琴的夜晚，想起手指磨出老茧时的疼痛，想起一次次重复练习的枯燥。那一刻我真正明白：所有的坚持，都是为了让你在最重要的时刻，绽放出最美的光芒。

It was the China-Belarus International Silk Road Youth Arts Competition, jointly organised by China and Belarus. The moment I stepped into the Beijing Concert Hall, I was deeply moved—the golden dome, the solemn atmosphere, and the auditorium filled with judges and audience members from both countries. I took a deep breath; as my fingertips touched the familiar strings, all my nerves suddenly vanished. The lights came up, and the melody of ‘Flowers in Full Bloom, Moon in Full Circle’ flowed from my fingertips. When the final note echoed through the concert hall, the entire audience erupted in thunderous applause—I had won the International Silver Prize! I was just 0.03 marks short of the Gold Prize; the moment I stepped down from the podium, my eyes welled up with tears. It wasn’t for the prize itself, but because I was reminded of the countless nights spent practising, the pain of calluses forming on my fingers, and the tedium of repeating the same passages over and over. In that moment, I truly understood: all that perseverance is meant to ensure that, at the most crucial moment, you shine with the most beautiful radiance.

这把中阮，陪伴我走过了七年的时光。从最简单的音阶到复杂的乐曲，从胆怯地躲在琴房到自信地站上舞台，中阮教会了我什么叫“台上一分钟，台下十年功”。除了这次国际大赛，我还参加了无数次民乐比赛，每一次登台都是一次成长。而最让我感恩的是，通过中阮，我走进了中国传统文化的殿堂，那些古老的旋律里，藏着我们民族的智慧和情怀。

This zhongruan has been with me for seven years. From the simplest scales to complex pieces, from timidly hiding in the practice room to standing confidently on stage, the zhongruan has taught me the true meaning of the saying, ‘One minute on stage, ten years of practice behind the scenes’. In addition to this international competition, I have taken part in countless traditional music contests, and every time I have taken to the stage has been an opportunity for growth. But what I am most grateful for is that, through the zhongruan, I have entered the hallowed halls of traditional Chinese culture; within those ancient melodies lie the wisdom and sentiments of our nation.

 

当然，我的成长路上不止有中阮。运动也是我的热爱，马术、滑雪、游泳、空手道、乒乓球都是我的心头好。同时，我还是舞蹈练功房里的“小陀螺”，在“小兰花”全国舞蹈大赛中翩翩起舞，多次参与安徽省少儿春晚的录制；我也是英语演讲台上的自信少年，用流利的语言讲述中国故事；我还是数学海洋里的探索者，在袋鼠数学和AMC8国际数学竞赛中挑战自我。妈妈常常笑我：“小小的身体里，住着一个精力无限的小超人。”

Of course, my journey of growth has not been limited to the zhongruan. I am also passionate about sport: horse riding, skiing, swimming, karate and table tennis are all among my favourite pastimes. At the same time, I am a ‘little whirlwind’ in the dance studio, having performed gracefully at the ‘Little Orchid’ National Dance Competition and taken part in the recording of the Anhui Provincial Children’s Spring Festival Gala on numerous occasions; I am also a confident young speaker on the English podium, telling Chinese stories with fluency; I am an explorer in the ocean of mathematics, challenging myself in the Kangaroo Maths and AMC8 international maths competitions. Mum often jokes: ‘In that tiny body lives a little superman with boundless energy.’

但比起这些奖项，我更希望自己成为一个温暖的人。

But rather than winning these awards, I’d much rather be a kind-hearted person.

 

作为班里的班长和学校的大队委，我会耐心地给同学讲解难题，一遍不会就讲两遍。我也积极响应大队部老师的号召，去养老院慰问老人。作为安徽省青少年中乐团的一员，在乐团排练时，我会主动帮低年级的小师妹调整指法，因为我知道初学时的迷茫；看到同学心情不好，我会悄悄递上一颗糖，或者写一张鼓励的小纸条。老师夸我品学兼优，但我心里清楚，成绩和奖项只是成长的一部分，真正重要的是——你能否用自己的光，照亮身边的人。

As the class monitor and a member of the school’s brigade committee, I patiently explain difficult problems to my classmates, repeating the explanation if they don’t understand the first time. I respond to the call of the brigade teachers and visit the elderly in nursing homes. As a member of the Anhui Provincial Youth Chinese Orchestra, I actively help junior sisters adjust their fingering during orchestra rehearsals, because I understand the confusion of beginners. When I see a classmate in a bad mood, I quietly offer them a piece of candy or write a small note of encouragement. My teachers praise me for my excellent academic performance and moral conduct, but I know in my heart that grades and awards are only part of growing up. What truly matters is whether you can use your own light to illuminate those around you.

回望来路，我特别感谢九岁那年的北京音乐厅。那个夏夜教会我：真正的优秀，不是站在领奖台上的那一刻，而是在无数个无人看见的日夜里，依然坚持练习的执着；是在聚光灯熄灭后，依然记得自己是谁的清醒；是怀抱梦想的同时，也懂得俯身关怀他人的温度。

Looking back, I am particularly grateful to the Beijing Concert Hall from when I was nine years old. That summer night taught me that true excellence is not found in the moment one stands on the podium, but in the perseverance to keep practising through countless unseen days and nights; it is the clarity of mind to remember who one is even after the spotlight has faded; and it is the warmth of caring for others whilst holding onto one’s dreams.

未来，我会继续抱着我的中阮，弹奏更多美好的乐曲。我想把中国的民乐弹给更多人听，也想把这份从音乐中学到的坚韧与温柔，带到更远的地方。

In the future, I will continue to hold my zhongruan and play more beautiful pieces. I want to share Chinese folk music with a wider audience, and I also want to carry the resilience and gentleness I have learned from music to even more distant places.

这就是我，一个爱中阮、爱舞蹈、爱数学、爱英语、爱运动，更爱这个美好世界的五年级女生。谢谢大家！

SUIS HF in My Eyes 我/眼/中/的/合/肥/协/和

PART 02

校园里满眼的绿色和老师脸上亲切的笑容，是一年级入学时协和给我最深的印象。从第一次入学面试起，我就对这所学校充满了喜爱。

The lush greenery across the school grounds and the warm smiles on the teachers’ faces were what struck me most about SUIS-HF when I started P1; ever since my first admission interview, I have been thoroughly taken with this school.

在协和上学从未让我感到紧张和压抑，相反，我每天都特别期待来到校园。这里有充满创意的课程，我们可以在外教的帮助下自编自导自演英文短剧，也可以在学校开辟的田地里亲自种植蔬菜、药材，观察它们的生长，了解它们的特性，让我们的知识不仅仅局限于书本的方寸之间。

Studying at SUIS-HF has never made me feel anxious or overwhelmed; on the contrary, I look forward to coming to school every single day. Here, we have creative courses where, with the help of our foreign teachers, we can write, direct and perform our own English plays. We can also grow our own vegetables and medicinal herbs in the school’s garden, observing their growth and learning about their characteristics—ensuring that our knowledge extends far beyond the confines of textbooks.

 

各种各样的运动更是协和的特色，在强身健体的同时还充满乐趣。我们有匹克球、划船机、游泳，课后更有击剑、空手道、高尔夫等丰富课程可供选择。每年学校也会组织各种各样的运动比赛，让我们参与其中，学会团结与谦逊，协作和鼓励。

A wide variety of sports is a hallmark of SUIS-HF, allowing us to build our physical strength whilst having great fun. Activities include pickleball, rowing machines and swimming, and after school there is a rich selection of courses to choose from, such as fencing, karate and golf. Every year, the school organises a range of sporting competitions, enabling us to take part and learn the values of teamwork, humility, cooperation and encouragement.

 

在艺术方面，协和也非常重视学生的发展。三年级时，学校为我们提供了英皇乐团的课程，我们每个人都选择了自己喜欢的乐器。我选择了单簧管，这也是我第一次接触西洋乐器。因为一直学习中阮，生活中并没有精力去学习其他乐器，而正是学校的课程为我打开了新世界的大门，原来西洋乐器的合奏之美是如此令人心潮澎湃。一年一度的冬季音乐会，也是协和学子每年的艺术盛宴，每一个节目都倾注了老师和学生们的心血，精彩绝伦。

In terms of the arts, SUIS-HF places great emphasis on students’ development. In P3, the school offered us the ABRSM Orchestra course, and we each chose an instrument we liked; I chose the clarinet, which was my first encounter with a Western instrument. Having been focused on learning the zhongruan, I hadn’t had the energy to take up other instruments in my daily life; it was the school’s programme that opened the door to a whole new world for me. I discovered that the beauty of Western instrumental ensemble playing is truly stirring. The annual Winter Concert is also a cultural highlight for SUIS-HF students; every performance is the result of the hard work and dedication of both teachers and pupils, and is absolutely spectacular.

协和对于我来说是除了家以外最亲切的地方，这里有我深爱的集体，敬爱的老师，更有美好的学习时光。

For me, SUIS-HF is the place that feels most like home; here I have a community I dearly love, teachers I hold in high esteem, and, above all, wonderful memories of my time studying here.

Ms. Cheng (Class Teacher)

作为班主任，我有幸见证了她五年来的成长与蜕变。在学习上，她始终做到自律与专注。课堂上总是目光炯炯，紧跟老师思路；课后的作业一丝不苟，遇到难题从不轻言放弃。更难能可贵的是她的品德与担当。作为我的班长，始终是老师的得力干将，做事沉稳踏实，考虑周全。无论是组织班级活动，还是帮助同学解决困难，她公平正义，包容慷慨，从不计较个人得失。因此她也拥有了极好的同学缘，是班级里的“粘合剂”。

As her form tutor, I have had the privilege of witnessing her growth and transformation over the past five years. Academically, she has consistently demonstrated self-discipline and focus. In class, she always pays close attention, following the teacher’s train of thought; her homework is meticulously completed, and she never gives up easily when faced with a difficult problem. Even more commendable are her character and sense of responsibility. As my class monitor, she has consistently been a capable and reliable assistant to the teacher, approaching her duties with a steady and down-to-earth manner, and always considering every angle. Whether organising class activities or helping classmates overcome difficulties, she acts with fairness and integrity, showing tolerance and generosity, never dwelling on personal gains or losses. As a result, she has earned the deep affection of her classmates and serves as the ‘glue’ that binds the class together.

她是个特别灵气的女孩——课堂上思维敏捷，见解独到；与人相处时又落落大方，从容得体。最难忘的是她的笑容，像三月的风，总能在不经意间吹暖身边的人。那份超出年龄的通透，让她既有少女的纯真，又有难得的稳重。愿婉宁永远保持这份明媚与热忱，在更广阔的人生舞台上，自由绽放。

She is a remarkably bright young woman—quick-witted and insightful in the classroom; poised, graceful and well-mannered in her interactions with others. Most unforgettable of all is her smile, like a March breeze, which always seems to warm those around her without her even realising it. That wisdom beyond her years allows her to possess both the innocence of a young girl and a rare sense of composure. May Gloria always retain this radiance and enthusiasm, and blossom freely on the broader stage of life.

在我印象里，婉宁始终是那个笑容明媚、阳光向上的女孩。她认真对待老师布置的每一项任务，待人友善、乐于助人；课堂上积极参与互动，主动组织、带动小组同学一起学习；课外也坚持英文原版阅读，踊跃参加各类英语竞赛，不断突破自我。她认真、自律又温暖，是大家眼中闪闪发光、值得学习的好同学！

In my memory, Gloria has always been that girl with a radiant smile and a sunny disposition. She takes every task set by her teachers seriously, is kind to others and always willing to lend a helping hand; in class, she actively participates in discussions and takes the initiative to organise and lead her group-mates in their studies; outside of school, she persists with reading English-language books in their original form and enthusiastically takes part in various English competitions, constantly pushing herself to new heights. She is diligent, self-disciplined and warm-hearted—a shining example and a role model in everyone’s eyes!
