“语言若离开了词汇，就无所谓语言，正像建筑一所大厦，没有建筑材料，有再好的图纸也无从谈起。”英国著名语言学家威尔金森曾经这样说过。英语词汇的学习是英语学习的基础。

Language is meaningless without vocabulary, just like building a mansion without building materials, no matter how good the blueprint is, it is impossible to start.” Wilkins, a famous British linguist, once said this. Learning English vocabulary is the foundation of English learning.

 

 

为了提升学生的拼写能力和词汇量，近期，我校小学部中外教英语团队全力打造的“2024协和杯英语拼词词王争霸赛”正如火如荼地进行着。本次赛事共分成两个赛段。经各学段各班级英语教师课内选拔，6个年级，3个学段，近百位选手分学段同台竞技，各显神通。

In order to enhance students’ spelling ability and vocabulary, the “2024 SUIS-HF Cup Spelling Bee” organized by the Chinese and foreign English teaching team of our primary school is currently in full swing. This competition is divided into two stages. After in-class selection by English teachers of each grade and class, nearly 100 contestants from 6 grades and 3 stages compete on the same stage, each showing their skills.

 

 

本次大赛的题型丰富，结合日常生活场景和双语科学类单词，考验学生的生活经验和单词累积，同时对学生的眼、手、脑协调作战有一定考验。

The contest features a variety of question types, incorporating daily life scenarios and bilingual scientific vocabulary, challenging students’ life experience and vocabulary accumulation, while also testing their eye, hand, and brain coordination.

 

一年级和二年级的比赛共分为两轮。第一轮是词汇图谱。根据屏幕显示的主题图片，小选手们纷纷说出对应的单词并正确拼出。第二轮为速拼单词。在两轮比赛中，来自各个班级的参赛者们聚精会神，拼搏进取，努力为自己和班级争夺荣誉。

The competition for the P1-P2 age group is divided into two rounds. The first round is the vocabulary map. Based on the themed images displayed on the screen, the young contestants speak out the corresponding words and spell them correctly. The second round is the speed spelling of words. During the two rounds, contestants from various classes were focused and competitive, striving to win honor for themselves and their classes.

 

 

三、四年级的比赛现场比赛难度层层递进，对单词拼写能力和词汇量的考查也各有侧重。第一轮是词汇生花，根据一组无序的单词连词成句。第二轮是极速拼词，在规定的时间内根据释义猜出单词并正确拼写；第三轮是慧眼识词，找出拼写错误的词语并且正确纠错。台上激烈比拼，台下热烈喝彩！

The competition for the P3-P4 age group features progressively increasing difficulty levels, with different emphases on word spelling ability and vocabulary size. The first round is “Word Blossom”, where participants must form sentences from a set of unordered words. The second round is “Speed Spelling”, where participants must guess and correctly spell words based on their definitions within a specified time limit. The third round is “Word Wise”, where participants must identify and correct misspelled words. The competition is intense on stage, and the audience cheers enthusiastically off stage!

 

 

五年级和六年级的赛事规则分别是词汇生花、极速拼词和慧眼识词。比赛现场的气氛相当紧张而热烈，赛场上的选手们积极进取，展现出协力奋进的协和精神！

The competition rules for the P5-P6 age group are “Word Blossom”, “Speed Word Puzzle”, and “Word Wise”. The atmosphere at the competition site was tense yet lively, with the contestants on the field actively striving and demonstrating the spirit of collaboration and perseverance!

 

 

协和双语学校英语组的老师们表示，通过举办本次英语拼词大赛，不仅仅是组织一场竞技，而是它对于学生整体语言能力的发展具有重要意义。在竞争角逐的过程，也鼓励孩子们养成主动探索、不断挑战的精神，也有助于培养终身学习理念，从而使未来的发展道路更加广阔！

The teachers from the English team at SUIS-HF stated that organizing this English spelling competition is not merely about hosting a competition, but rather, it holds significant importance for the development of students’ overall language proficiency. During the competition process, it also encourages children to cultivate a spirit of proactive exploration and continuous challenge, which is conducive to fostering a lifelong learning mindset, thereby broadening their future development paths!
