School is a place where children grow up happily, and school safety touches the hearts of teachers and parents. School bullying, as a special form of aggressive behaviour, is not new in the lives of teenagers. However, many students do not have a deep understanding of bullying, or think that it is just a “game” between classmates. In fact, the invisible wounds often have an immeasurable negative impact on them.

Unity-day was launched in October 2011 by PACER’ s National Bullying Prevention Center. It is a global zero-bullying campaign where different countries, races, and communities are participating in anti-bullying activities in unique ways. During the third week of October each year, people gather to show their support for anti-bullying by wearing orange clothing or orange jewellery.

From 16th to 20th October, in order to express zero tolerance for bullying in schools and to cultivate students’ sense of solidarity and mutual help, SUIS Hefei carried out a series of activities with the theme of“Zero Bullying”.

 “Zero Bullying” Theme Class Meeting

During the class meetings, our class teachers showed students the harm and serious consequences of school bullying to the victims through actual case studies, explained the general knowledge about school bullying, how to deal with it when encountered, etc., and allowed students to discuss the actual examples around them, so as to enhance the students’ awareness of anti-bullying.

Sharing On The Theme Of “Hello, Emotion”

P1 children tend to express their emotions very directly when they are faced with various small emotions, crying or simply “getting physical” regardless of the occasion, which affects interpersonal relationships and has the potential risk of bullying in schools. Ms. Aimee Ding of Wellbeing Counseling Room designed a special sharing session on the topic of emotions for the P1 cuties. Ms. Aimee Ding led the group to experience emotions and express them, helping the children to clarify the inappropriate ways of expressing emotions in their lives, letting them know what they can do when emotions come and learn to share their happiness with people around them.

Zero Bullying Theme Art Shirt Exhibition

Orange represents hope and support, conveying a powerful and compelling spirit of solidarity, declaring a message to everyone that bullying is an absolutely unacceptable behaviour, make it ORANGE and make it end! Students used words, lines and colours to express their attitudes towards bullying in schools and their expectations for a harmonious campus. One piece of creative orange cultural shirts made the awareness of rejecting bullying more deeply rooted in student’s hearts.

I’d Like To Say To You

Teachers and students chose different colours of cardboard and wrote down what they wanted to say to the “bully”, “the bullied” and “the bystander”. In the dialogue with different characters, they became more determined not to be a bully, not to be a bystander, and to speak up for themselves and for others.

Lectures On The Theme Of Bullying Prevention In Schools

Ms. Aimee Ding of Wellbeing Counseling Room shared her knowledge about bullying with S7 and S8 students in the form of a talk, advocating that we should neither be bullies nor bystanders. She focused on two questions: “What can we do when we encounter bullying?” and “Bystanders can do something about it”. and “Can bystanders change the course of bullying?”. The students listened attentively and actively participated in sharing their practices and feelings in an inclusive and relaxed atmosphere, and each of them gained a deeper understanding of bullying in schools and how to act.

This activity raises teachers’ and students’ awareness of preventing bullying in schools, and conveys the concept of “acceptance, friendliness and  open-minded” in schools, so that every child can be bathed in the sunshine of harmony. Let’s work together to say no to bullying in schools!
